William Hawkins "Bill" Minter
(1840-1917)
William Hawkins Minter was born November 30, 1840 in Marion County, Georgia. He served for the Confederate Army during the American Civil War. Later, he moved to Pine Forest, TX and followed in his father's footsteps with the affairs of the town. He served a stint as the town's postmaster. William and his wife, Mariah J (Smith) Minter (b.1846 - d.1905), had eight children together: M. Alice, Sarah "Sallie" (Minter) Denney, John Robert, Annie Brooks, Thomas Jefferson, Claude, Lindsey Berry, and Katie.

Annie Brooks "Brooksie" (Minter) Jordan (b.1873-d.1942) with her husband, Starling Jordan (b.1869-d.1927). Annie was the daughter of William Hawkins and Mariah J. Minter.

First couple, on left, is Claude Minter (b.1877-d.1967) and his spouse Lucy (Martin) Minter (b.1896-d.1983). Claude is the son of William and Mariah Minter. The others in the picture are Lucy's siblings and their spouses. Claude and Lucy made their home in Greenville, Texas. They had at least nine children. Lucy lived to the ripe old age of 106 years and 4 days!

Lindsey Berry "Lin" Minter (b.1879-d.1949) was son to William and Mariah Minter. Lin and his wife Minnie Pearl (Smith) Minter had five children; four girls and a boy, all born before 1923. In that year the family moved from Pine Forest to Tyler, TX. Minnie died in 1944. In 1946, Lin married Addie Belle (Culpepper).

Roy Mac Minter (b.1929-d.????), son of Freelan Dowe (b.1903-d.1986) and Linnie Belle (Morgan) Minter (b.1910-d.1987). Roy a great-grandson of William Hawkins Minter.


Seated: Harold Peyton Jordan (b.1911-d.1995), son of Annie Brooks (Minter) Jordan (b.1873-d.1942) and Starling Jordan (b.1869-d.1927). The woman standing is Clovis Elizabeth (Robinson) Gibbs (b.1907-d.2006), granddaughter to Robert Anthony Minter.

Lois (Minter) Rhodes (b.1902-d.1988), second daughter to "Lin" and Minnie Minter. She married Brice Rhodes of Pine Forest, and she lived out her life there.

On the right is Annie Brooks (Minter) Jordan (b.1873-d.1942), daughter of William Hawkins and Mariah (Smith) Minter, with her daughter Gracie Brooks Jordan.


Jacob Graydon "Jake" Jordan (b.1915-d.1996), son of Starling and Annie Brooks Jordan. The youngest children -- Jake moved away to western Texas after finishing school, and got married.
Gracie Brooks Jordan (b.1905-d.1976), daughter of Starling and Annie Brooks (Minter) Jordan. Grace lived in Pine Forest most of her life. She never married. She worked on her parents' farm, and later on in life owned and operated a general store in Pine Forest. She was a friend to all.

Maurice Jordan (b.1903-d.1998), son of Starling and Annie Brooks (Minter) Jordan. Maurice was born in Pine Forest and lived there almost to the end of his life. He lived on land that had been in the Minter family since they arrived in 1855. He was married to Zelena (McClure), and they had one son, Joe Pat, who was a family man and carried on the family name. Maurice was a fine citizen and community leader, and lived to be almost 95 years of age.



On Left: Dorothy Mariah (Jordan) Beckham (b.1913-d.2003) was the daughter of Starling and Annie Brooks (Minter) Jordan. One of the younger Jordan children. She was the wife of Valton Delbert Beckham (b.1908-d.1975). Dorothy was widowed and lived in Tyler, Texas near her children.
Center: Harold Peyton Jordan (b.1911-d.1995), son of Starling and Annie Brooks (Minter) Jordan. He was a good citizen. While still in school, he played the piano at gatherings, and was popular with his peers. He was a florist in Tyler, Texas, and later in Dallas, Texas.
On Right: Starling Minter Jordan (b.1908-d.1985) was son of Starling and Annie Brooks (Minter) Jordan. He was born and raised in Pine Forest, but later moved away. Him and his wife are buried in a suburb of Los Angeles, CA.
